January 11, 2010 Melbourne Victory are leading the charge to re-sign former striker Danny Allsopp as speculation mounts he will be released by his Middle East club just five months after his transfer.

Allsopp is certain to be pursued by a swag of A-League clubs, with his Qatar club, Al-Rayyan, understood to now consider him surplus to their needs.

Al-Rayyan are close to re-signing Oman striker Emad Al Hosni from Belgian club Charleroi, which would then free up Allsopp to move on - most likely back to Australia.

Allsopp has been a success in Qatar, scoring six times in just 13 appearances.

But Al Hosni, who played for Oman in the Asian Cup, including the two games against the Socceroos, is a quality striker who scored a goal every two matches during his successful stint at Al-Rayyan prior to moving to Belgium.

Victory said they would be "very interested" in taking back Allsopp, though it remains unclear whether any move would require a transfer fee or loan arrangement.

Allsopp is a two-time championship winner with the Victory, who will surely have the inside running to re-sign him.

But with a proven A-League goalscoring record, the 31-year-old may also be a target for new franchise Melbourne Heart, as well as other clubs desperately seeking a target man.

Adelaide United and Brisbane Roar are also clubs in need of a reliable striker - the latter's need hinging on whether Sergio Van Dijk decides his future lies elsewhere beyond this season.

"Our understanding is that at this point Danny Allsopp is contracted to Al Rayyan. Should that change, we'd be very interested in talking to him and his management," a Victory spokesman said.

"At the point we are advised that Danny is not an Al Rayyan player, we'll be seeking to find out what his movements are and what he wants to do."

The Victory sold Allsopp for an undisclosed fee to Al Rayyan in September.

After two successive A-League losses, Melbourne are in danger of slipping out of the top two and would be desperate to strengthen their line-up approaching the upcoming finals and Asian Champions League.

If he does come back to Australia I think he will go to the Victory again. There will be a lot of intrest for him, particurly Brisbane if Van Dijk moves on to another club.

I would say that Allsopp would go back to one of the a league clubs

I reackon he would go back to the victory.

Allsopp has signed with DC United in the MLS. Hopefully he will get a regular starting spot.
